Job description
We are currently working with one of our esteemed clients who are looking for a Graduate / Junior Power Systems Engineer to work on EPC – HV Substation & BESS Projects. The role will be based in the clients head office in Glasgow, with site visits if and when required.
This is a full time role and the candidate will report to the Senior Power Systems Engineer / Engineering Manager
Sector: EPC / Power Systems / Energy Storage / Grid Connections
This role is to join an ever growing Engineering team, and support the design and delivery of high-voltage substation and Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) projects across the UK.
This role offers the opportunity to gain hands-on experience across the full EPC project lifecycle — from concept design and grid studies through to detailed design, construction, and commissioning.
You’ll be mentored by experienced engineers and gain exposure to power system studies, grid integration, and protection and control design — helping to deliver projects that are powering the UK’s transition to net zero.
Key Responsibilities
- Support senior engineers with power system modelling, analysis, and grid studies (load flow, fault, protection coordination, harmonic, and dynamic studies).
- Assist in preparing single line diagrams (SLDs), schematics, and design documentation for HV substations and BESS connections.
- Carry out data collection, model building, and simulation using industry software (e.g., DIgSILENT PowerFactory, ETAP, PSCAD, IPSA).
- Contribute to grid code compliance studies and DNO/NGESO submissions.
- Assist with design reviews, technical reports, and calculations.
- Collaborate with electrical, protection, SCADA, and civil teams within the EPC delivery environment.
- Support QA, design control, and documentation workflows using Procore or equivalent project management platforms.
- Participate in factory and site testing (FAT/SAT) to gain practical exposure to project delivery.
Qualifications and Experience
Essential:
- Degree (BEng/MEng) in Electrical or Power Engineering (or similar).
- Strong academic understanding of power systems, protection, and control principles.
- Familiarity with power system modelling tools (e.g., PowerFactory, ETAP, PSCAD, IPSA).
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Eagerness to learn and develop in an EPC project delivery environment.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
Desirable:
- 1–2 years of relevant experience in HV systems, consultancy, utilities, or EPC projects.
- Understanding of BESS operation, grid connection requirements, or National Grid standards.
- Experience using Procore or other digital project management tools.
- Working toward IET membership and professional registration (IEng/CEng pathway).
